Canon MAXIFY GX7020 Driver Download– The Canon Maxify GX7020 is the ideal printer for families with diverse printing needs and anyone who needs a powerful wireless printer for the home office.
In addition to functioning as a copier, scanner, and fax machine, this workhorse can print up to 24 pages per minute in black and white or up to 15.5 pages per minute in full color.
In the box, Canon includes enough ink to print 18,000 black-and-white or 14,000 full-color pages, and the printer comes with a three-year or 80,000-page limited warranty.
That’s a little picture of the findings I described in my previous Canon Maxify GX7020 review. Long story short: It has won me over as an all-in-one that can power anything up to a mid-sized business center.
All sorts of useful features have been combined into what we now consider the best all-in-one printers, designed to save you money and help protect the environment (because you don’t have to constantly throw away empty ink cartridges, and you’re able to produce double-sided printing or photocopying to save paper).

Right out of the box and with minimal setup, the Canon Maxify GX7020 will soon become an indispensable tool in your home office while also addressing the diverse printing needs of your entire family.
Thanks to its wired or wireless capabilities, you can connect this printer to your home network and make it accessible to everyone’s desktop or laptop computer.
In addition to printing Letter-size pages in black-and-white or full color (8.5 inches by 11 inches), this printer can handle photo paper or card stock, for example, to make prints of various sizes.
That includes 4×6 inches, 5×5 inches, 5×7 inches, 7×10 inches, 8×10 inches, #10 envelopes, Legal size pages, or any paper between 3.5 inches and 8.5 inches wide and between 5 inches and 47 inches long.
So if you need to print multiple copies of an important business report or proposal, the Canon Maxify GX7020 can handle this task with ease, and then move on to printing your child’s school project, which includes creating 5 x 7-inch color prints from digital images on photo paper—without You must empty and then refill the printer paper tray.
Setting up the Canon Maxify GX7020
Besides paper, almost everything you need to start using the Canon Maxify GX7020 comes in a big box. You’ll find lots of orange tapes holding the printer’s moving parts in place.
Keep in mind that these strips of tape are located around the entire unit and inside the scanning unit. There are also pieces of orange plastic that need to be removed from inside the printer during the disassembly process.
The Getting Started Guide included in the box will walk you through this process. When you pick up and position the printer in its storage area, hold it from the side as the manual instructs.
The initial setup process can be quick if you want to start with a few prints immediately. You will be assigned to set it on the first boot using the integrated touchscreen. Setup takes only a few minutes, and Canon animates most of the process to make it easy and intuitive.
After completing the three-minute setup process, loading the ink from the provided bottles into the respective tanks is time. The printer comes with three full-size black ink bottles and one yellow, cyan, and magenta bottle each.

This ink is enough to produce 18,000 black-and-white pages or 14,000 full-color pages. (Each bottle of black ink will yield approximately 6,000 pages.)
One nice design element of this printer is that the top of each ink tank has a slightly different lock-like design that fits over the top of each colored ink tank bottle. Each tank is also color-coded and well labeled, so it’s impossible to accidentally pour the wrong color ink into a particular tank.
The manual guides you through the process, but Canon also includes a useful visual guide within the loading bay while guiding you through the display. Thanks to its external ink tank window, you’ll also get an always-on visual of each color’s fill level.
Once the ink has entered, you will be directed to complete the process by preparing a test print, which will require letter-size paper and an additional 10 minutes. You will then be tasked with connecting it to your wireless network.
The Canon Maxify GX7020 is AirPrint (for Apple devices) and compatible with wireless printing (Android), so you can start using this printer with your smartphone or tablet immediately after setup.
However, to gain full access to all printer functions, you must download and install the free Canon PRINT Inkjet app on your mobile device.
Design
While some lower-cost printers look like they are made of cheap plastic and are a bit flimsy, the Canon Maxify GX7020 is well made and has a very intuitive design.
The two front-facing paper trays are easy to access, and you can always see how much ink is left in each tank (although when the ink is low, the printer displays a warning message on its screen and the computer or mobile device screen).
The USB port is next to the colored ink tanks on the front of the printer. If network-based printing is impossible, you can insert a flash drive with the document or photo you want to print.
Meanwhile, you will also see how easily and smoothly the printer cover opens to open the flatbed scanner. Once opened, the lid locks into place. To release the lock, slightly lift the cover-up before attempting to close it.
With the lid closed, you can unscrew the plastic top sheet feeder and then load multiple pages to scan, photocopy, or fax. Pages fed to the printer’s top are returned just below the sheet feeder (also at the printer’s top).
The third paper tray (100-sheet capacity) is located on the back, which can accommodate various paper sizes. If you plan to print #10 envelopes, you will load them in this paper tray (up to 10 envelopes at a time). Underneath is a removable door that allows you to remove a jammed sheet of paper.
At some point, you will have to replace the printer maintenance cartridge. This process may take a few minutes, but because the maintenance cartridge is pulling out of the bottom corner on the back of the printer, you will need to remove it periodically if it is placed on a wall.
Since the Maxify GX7020 is larger than most regular inkjet printers, you’ll want to place it on a desk or printer stand, for example, and make it a permanent home. Moving the printer between rooms is inconvenient due to its size and weight.
On the plus side, the printer’s actual footprint on the desk is pretty much the same as any printer, so it will look elegant in your home office and match your other equipment without being overbearing.
Using the Touch Screen Display
The Maxify GX7020 features a tilting color touchscreen. It would have been nice if the display was a little bigger, but it’s easy to read in various lighting situations with little or no glare, and the icons displayed (which you touch to activate) are big enough to look at and use.
On the left of the screen are the Power, Home, and Back buttons of the printer, while on the right of the screen, you will see the Stop, Black, and Color buttons (which are also the Start buttons). Each button is clearly labeled with the appropriate text and icon, making the printer very intuitive.
Just below the screen is two LED warning lights that will light up if something related to the printer’s operation requires your attention. For example, additional details related to out-of-paper, low ink notification, or paper jam are displayed directly on the screen.
The printer’s main menu includes six icons—Copy, Scan, My Presets, Print, Cloud, and Fax. While only three icons are displayed at once, a simple horizontal swipe across the screen causes the menu to scroll sideways.
When the menu option you want appears, tap it to activate that printer function. Below the main menu icons are displayed four additional icons that allow you to view and adjust the printer’s LAN settings and wireless connections, perform firmware updates (if applicable), and access printer information.
You can tap the Info icon to display information about printer ink levels, maintenance cartridge life remaining, system information, job management, and usage statistics. From here, you can also access Quick Guides, which can answer questions regarding the operation of any printer without the need to search online or refer to the printer manual.
Wireless
You may need to install drivers on your Windows or Mac computer to communicate with the printer, but mobile devices can start printing jobs automatically.
From your mobile device, select what you want to print, tap the Share menu icon, then select the Canon Maxify GX7020 printer from the list of available printers. You can then adjust Print Options from the mobile device’s print screen (shown below on an iPad Pro).
You’ll want to download and install the free Canon PRINT Inkjet app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store, giving you more printing tasks and options.
This colorful, icon-based menu-based application allows you to run diagnostics remotely on the printer, create prints wirelessly from digital images stored on your mobile device, print documents remotely from your mobile device, and create photo items (Easy Editor- Additional PhotoPrint mobile app required), make copies of content stored on your mobile device, scan documents remotely, manage cloud-based printing, or order printer supplies (including replacement ink) directly from Canon.
Using the free Canon Creative Park mobile app, you can use your mobile device and the Maxify GX7020 to quickly design and print custom decorations, cards, and paper-based crafts. While this may not be something you need in a home office setting, families with children or teens may appreciate this functionality.
If you choose to print from the cloud, you’ll find that right from the printer itself. You can connect to any popular cloud-based service using your account username and password.
You can then browse and select the files you want to print from the touch screen. The Maxify GX7020 works with Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Box, Evernote, Box, Microsoft Notes, and Google Classroom but doesn’t currently have Apple iCloud support.
However, from your iPhone or iPad, you can launch the Files app to access iCloud files, select a file to print, tap the Share icon, then send the file to a printer wirelessly via AirPrint. From your Mac, you can use the Finder to access iCloud files, select files to print, and send them to the Maxify GX7020 printer. You cannot access iCloud files directly from the printer’s touch screen.
Performance
As Canon promotes, it usually takes less than eight seconds between when you tap or click the Print button and when the printer starts rendering the first page.
It sleeps after a few minutes of inactivity, but the printer generally turns on instantly when it receives a new wireless print job or interacts with it in some other way.
The printer is also quiet, even when printing large documents, scanning, or photocopying. When printing on plain paper, the noise level will not exceed 49 decibels.
Another key convenience: This printer offers three paper trays. You can load each with a different size or type of paper or load trays one and two with a combined total of 500 sheets of Letter-size paper.
This means you don’t have to refill the paper tray near you as often as you would with other inkjet printers intended for home use (for example, some of the others in Canon’s lineup are 60 pages at most).
But the biggest advantage of the Canon Maxify GX7020 is the ink tank. Not having to constantly buy and replace individual ink cartridges is a huge time and money saver. Even if you use this printer extensively throughout your work week, you won’t need to recharge it more than once every few months.
Every aspect of using the Canon Maxify GX7020 is intuitive and straightforward. For whatever you need to do, the printer display guides you through the step-by-step process using colorful animated text and graphics.
The printer’s overall design makes almost everything you need to do easily accessible, whether loading multiple pages into the scanner, printing on envelopes loaded in the rear paper tray, or printing large documents (in black-and-white or full color) from a computer or device—your mobile.
As for the result, the print quality is excellent, and the ink dries quickly on the paper, so smudging is not a problem. Unless you’re analyzing the printout under a magnifying glass, you’ll have difficulty distinguishing between a text-based document printed on the Canon Maxify GX7020 versus the same document printed on a laser printer.
This makes it very useful for generating printed business reports or documents. Unlike laser printers, the process is completely odorless thanks to the less need for a toner.
Even when printing full-color photos, the ink is spread evenly onto the photo paper to produce professional-quality prints in your size, provided you use ultra premium quality (high gloss) photo paper.
Of the dozen Letter size, full-color photo prints I made for testing, only one showed imperfection. Fine lines from the printheads were visible on the prints after they dried, and I had to look closely to find them.
These streaks are only visible around darker colors, and after running a nozzle check and cleaning from the touch screen, the problem is gone.
I send high-resolution images wirelessly from my mobile device, and the printer authentically reproduces vibrant colors and limited detail in an 8.5 x 11-inch full-color print in under 90 seconds. Printing full-color documents, especially text-based documents, happens much faster.
Plan to use full duplex (two-sided) printing for a larger document to save paper. If the document contains a lot of graphics, you may be better off using slightly better printer paper than generic 20-pound copier paper, as you may see some ink coming off the page. This is common with any inkjet printer, but it’s worth noting here.
Is there a faster home office inkjet printer on the market? Yes. However, all-in-one printers that offer similar functionality are more expensive, much larger (and heavier), or color laser printers that are more expensive to maintain because of the high cost of toner cartridges.
Capable of printing up to 25 pages per minute in color or black-and-white, the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5880 is somewhat similar to the Canon Maxify GX7020 in terms of functionality. Still, the printer and ink are much more expensive. And is currently not for sale. In terms of cost per page to print, the Canon Maxify GX7020 is one of the most economical on the market.
Canon Maxify GX7020 Price
The retail price for this printer is $900, including enough ink to produce 18,000 black-and-white pages or 14,000 full-color pages. However, Best Buy is offering the Canon Maxify GX7020 on sale for just $750 at the time of writing, which makes this a very good deal.
As an all-in-one inkjet printer for the home office, it will be hard to find another printer that offers eco-friendly features, ease of use, and functionality like the Canon Maxify GX7020.
Those who need the microscopic difference a laser printer can make may want to pay more for the privilege, but most people don’t have to. This Canon model is close enough for a variety of needs.
If you want to upgrade to a color laser printer, your business correspondence will look great. Still, you won’t be able to produce professional-quality color prints from your digital images.
So if you want the best of both worlds from a printer that can handle even the toughest print jobs from your home office, the Canon Maxify GX7020 is powerful, more economical, and easier to operate.
